The stone bridges of Proti,

The stone bridges of Proti,

The "stone ... ornaments" of the 18th century.

The surviving stone bridges of Proti, built on the banks of the Analipsi stream, on the slopes of Mount Pangeοs,

they are the last two remaining architectural ornaments of the area, which insist on resisting the wear and tear of time, but it is unknown for how much longer, as actions are needed for their conservation and utilization.

Each bridge and a small monument of art, a charming legend, but also a fascinating story of another era, since our country, although it was enslaved by the Turks, its inhabitants were able to preserve unchanged their patriotic feeling, their Christian religion and Greekness of their tradition.

There is no doubt that the stone bridges of Proti were, during the Turkish rule, the connecting link of the enslaved villages of Pangeos, contributing the most to the spread of national liberation ideas, but also to the exchange of the cultural elements of each region. The residents of the area traveling daily through these stone bridges seem to have succeeded in upgrading the area economically and keeping their national consciousness intact.

The construction technique of the stone bridges on Mount Pangeo is admirable, as it competes with the construction technique of famous bridges from other regions of Greece. They were built by local craftsmen, in places that even today cause awe to the visitor. Their technique is special, enviable and different in every case. In terms of their architectural form, they are single-arched and extremely compact, achieving safe access to the opposite bank of the Analipsi stream.

Their construction material is stone in the type of adobe construction, which is abundant in the surrounding area. Today the stone bridges of Proti should not be left to their fate, as it is important to preserve them and above all to make use of them, as they can be a visitor attraction in themselves.
